Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How Does Close Reach Hockey Academy Work?
The Close Reach Academy is a private school that combines hockey development with quality education. We follow a thoughtful curriculum and calendar, ensuring students receive a strong academic foundation. Each day is balanced between classroom learning and on-ice or gym training, allowing student-athletes to excel both academically and athletically.
Q: Do you only except elite hockey players?
No, Close Reach Academy isn’t just for future NHL players! While we provide elite hockey development, many students join for our strong academics, small class sizes, and unique learning environment. Whether your goal is high-level hockey or quality education, Close Reach Academy offers a well-rounded experience for all student-athletes.
Q: Does my student athlete have to play select/rep hockey to attend the academy?
No, your child does not need to play select/rep hockey to attend Close Reach Academy! We welcome players of all levels, from house league to AAA, providing development opportunities for every athlete. Our goal is to develop players to their highest level while providing a high level of academics. We want our players to feel challenged and successful on the ice and in the classroom.
Q: Is this too much hockey?
Not at all! Our students love hitting the ice, and we carefully monitor their energy levels to ensure balance. During playoffs and spring hockey, we adjust training to focus on mobility and mindfulness, giving them the rest they need when needed.
We also enjoy communicating with their other coaches to ensure a our players remain healthy and motivated.
Q: Do players get to play other sports?
Yes, we encourage our players to play other sports! Playing other sports enhances their hockey playing ability.
Additionally, to keep training fresh we plan monthly field trips to try sports like kickboxing, spin, CrossFit, and gymnastics.
In the near future, Close Reach Academy will offer additional sports for our students to participate in.
