Philosophy
Charting a Course to Excellence
In our programs your player will learn to play an exciting modern style of hockey! Our style of hockey emphasizes a fast pace with lots of movement, superior speed, edge, and puck control with stellar, technical goaltending. We train student athletes in a system that is creative and a lot of fun to play in.
We support USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), an athlete-centered, coach-enhanced, administrator-supported framework that aims to help all individuals realize their athletic potential and utilize sport as a path toward an active and healthy lifestyle.
The ADM model is researched based focusing on overall athlete development involving not only sport-specific skills and an understanding of the game, but also understanding students while developing general athleticism and fitness, exceptional movement skills, recovery, nutrition, and mental skills. This holistic athlete development approach addresses the four domains of sports performance.
Technical – sport skills
Tactical – game IQ
Physical – fitness and athleticism
Psychological – focus, motivation, and positive mentality
These domains are often compartmentalized, but human development is highly complex. These domains are extremely interdependent and every child is different bringing their own unique qualities to a hockey team.
The ADM, through utilization of Long Term Athlete Development principles, allows us to integrate training, competition and recovery programming with relation to biological and psychosocial development so that we can fully get at a player’s potential — to help develop the athlete in a child, then a hockey player out of an athlete.

Another unique feature of Close Reach Hockey Academy is the hockey players go to school with their teammates to receive elite academics along with their elite hockey training. This brings another level of accountability, team spirit, and supporting one another in all aspects of life. Having a school designed by a hockey coach and a schedule that accommodates hockey players and their families is a game changer.
